Queensland Flood Relief Appeal - the last post...

So, after raising a few dollars here and donating a few there, together we have contributed $99,089 to the Premiers Flood Relief Appeal. I am gobsmacked. I am sending all of you who donated to this appeal a really, really big thanks. Your generosity is assisting families get back on their feet after a natural disaster of biblical proportion just goes to show what this crafty online community can achieve. Thank you.

A HUGE big thank you to all of you who donated to the Queensland Flood Appeal. While the media may have moved on, the survivors will be rebuilding for a long time to come.

Those of you who haven't heard, (am I'm fairly convinced that wouldn't be anyone), Queensland is experiencing disastrous flooding. In an effort to assist those in need and raise awareness of the appeal, Toni from Make it Perfect is coordinating a mass of craft "auctions". You can find the list of participants here.

The most needed commodity for Queenslanders right now is cash. For my bit, I am auctioning this mini quilt:

I have a little confession to make!

 So I have the new room. It's all tidy and neat and organised right? WRONG!!! There is a very small space I just can't work out how to arrange. It's the damn notions. Presently, they are thrown (cough-cough) stored in the top drawer of my desk. There are all kinds of crap useful notions in this drawer and it's just not working. Thread, zippers, tape, tools, templates, hexagon papers, pins, spare rotary blades, needles and the list goes on.

 

Do you have an organised way of storing your bits and bobs? I'd love to hear how you do it - I need help to get this together as it is driving me nuts.

Day Five

And I'm not sure I'm gonna make it...

I have finished all seven tops but I can only show you five for now - the two for the mini quilt top are to be kept secret until after 31 January as it's a secret swap - promise to show you then!

I have two days to go - maybe I'll have to be REALLY nice to the Officer and get these girls outta this house ;)

PS: I've wanted to make a dresden plate block for so long but have always feared them. This was too easy!!! I think I've found a new addiction...

Seven Minis in Seven Days...

It's official - I am a lunatic!

Remember that plan I mentioned? I've got a flash new room but the walls are bare. In order to remedy that, I've set myself a wee challenge - seven mini quilts in seven days. Yes, you read correctly, I'm going to make seven mini quits in seven days. To add to the challenge, I'm not allowed to buy any fabric. Nothing for the top, no batting and no backing - I have enough in that little room of mine to do these without one single purchase!!!

And, because it's far more interesting to have other peoples work hanging about, I've decided to join this little swap. Two of the quilts I make will be for me, two for baby gifts, two for this swap and that leaves one... Hmmmm, I wonder if you'd like it for your walls??? Watch this space...

So, how's it going so far? Well, not too shabby if I do say so myself - day two and I have one complete quilt, two quilted and ready for binding and another top (it helps that Officer Plod is on leave and took the smalls out of the house for a couple of hours!):

A new room for me!!!

I've been coveting this room for three year. THREE WHOLE YEARS since we moved into our home. And when the lovely Lynette in one of my bees asked what our crafty new year resolution was, I new I had to make it happen. Then, fortuitously, my Mum came to stay for three days and we got to work. My old space has never really worked for me, always messy and disorganised and not quite light enough.

So, here it is - a whole room of my own set up just the way I like it!

The walls a still a little bare which is a fabulous excuse to make mini-quilts - I have a plan which I'll reveal in the next few days...
